Before I push, I’ll blog (July 26, 2005)

Dear Friends,

This is an email I wrote this morning and originally sent to Nancy. Here’s what, and why, and how you get to read it too :)

Subject: Happy Nancy Day

Today is Nancy day in France. Dunno if there’s such a thing in the
US, but it’s Saint Nancy today here. So this is an email of love and
respect to you, dear…

I hope the Summer is treating you well, that you will get to roll
around on a beach somewhere, to kiss Italian boys and to get slightly
drunk watching boats coming in and out of the port. Or maybe that’s
one of my vacation times, a long time ago in Corsica :)

We had Jonathan and Braunwen in Paris, closely following Mickie. That
was awesome. I was really happy to see everyone. Did not get my
private Spottiswoode concert, and Ms Exter played it shy too, but I
got to play with paint and colors with Mickie, which was a great
moment. We have all these little paper card things to hang on the
future human’s walls, and Mickie actually made a real canvas painting
for her too! Life is very much centered around pregnancy, food, fun
and, well, that’s it really. I’m massively pregnant, I’ve been
cooking and baking since the early stages because if you can’t get
wasted at parties and in bars, and can’t go running around the city,
and weigh a small ton anyway, what’s there to do except make great
food and read great books and watch great movies? Ok, sometimes the
movies are not so great. But I was given this incredible poppy seed
cake recipe by my friend Virginie, and have turned everyone around
me, French or American, into a poppy seed addict. Future Human will
most probably be an opium fiend.

Oh. By the way. I’ve entered pre-labor. Yes, there’s such a thing as
pre-labor, but they don’t tell you about it. Can last more than a
week. Hell, it can even stop and start over. So I am trying to
explain to her it’s just time to come and forget about announcing
yourself just come out so we can start getting to know each other and
play and not waste the Summer away. But oh no, pre-labor is a
requisite, because all these different body parts (mine, mind you,
hers are extremely supple at this time, I am told, these days she’s
just rolling around in her private waterfront, probably dreaming
about kissing Italian boys, etc…) because all my body parts, as I
was saying, have to adjust and crack and widen and become flexible so
she can get through. And of course it has to hurt like crazy. Imagine
your menstrual cramps, times 30. I tend to say times 80, but I’m
overdoing it. So imagine your period and multiply the pain by a
reasonable 30, and add an unbelievable need to go pee and crap 55
times a day. Aside from that and kidney stones because babies tend to
sit on your kidneys, well, she’s in great shape, I’m huge (photos to
prove it) and taking care of the last stuff around the house and in
terms of administration, etc… Ludo is a great future dad, it’s a
fun and challenging common project we have going on, creating a human
being and wondering how we will inspire her to be happy and blissful
in such a crazy world and deciding what color should dominate her
childhood (we’ve decided orange, but are adding a little purple and
green for balance) and what we want to tell her about religion and
politics and where to send her when she enters the early stages of
teenage hell-breaking-lose mania.

That’s it for the morning chant… It’s almost like a diary entry.
You’re my first email or writing of the day, so you get the cry of
the heart :) I think I’ll send the paragraph to a few people,
though ! Maybe I’ll make this a tradition, write to a different
friend each time and pretend he or she is a log entry theme. See who
inspires what. There you go, here’s an idea, and it will have started
with Nancy. Inspiration comes from the inspired ones. Thank you for
that. I will now join the blog community. My server host is going to
be thrilled when I tell him I need him to make me a website.

Love and kisses and curtsies,
M-N

So now you know. And I really like this idea, so I immediately set to work on it between the city hall anticipatory child birth declaration you have to do here if you are not married, and the 6 hours of cleaning which I believe mean I am nesting, as they say…

I gave the news to my server host and web genius, and he’s started working on my new website, www.voxpronoia.com. I’ve got a real blog application being set up, so I can blabber on about my life and how great the world is despite it all, and where you’ll be able to respond privately or publicly but it might take a while to be done with, cos even though my web admin feels obliged to meet my expectations due to the silly fact that I’m his wedding planner, he certainly had not anticipated this new project right just this second.

So please get prepared to the idea that you’ll receive mostly collective news (collective, ha ha, get it, remember??) from now on, and for a while, given the new life and schedule I have ahead of me. And keep in mind that some of it might be in French, depending on who inspires me, and because yes, there is some wee Frenchness in me! I’ll send group emails until voxpronoia.com is up…

Poppy seed cake recipe will come shortly, for those of you who are already hooked. I’m baking one tonight.

I SEND YOU LOVE AND I MISS YOU!
M-N, future parent to a future human
